Laiskiainen viettää lähes koko elämänsä trooppisen sademetsän puissa. Se saa oksista tukevan otteen käyrillä kynsillään. Koska laiskiainen roikkuu oksista aina ylösalaisin, sen turkin lakikohta ei sijaitse päässä tai selässä vaan vatsan päällä. Näin sadevesi valuu paremmin pois.
